the union jack

Hello Angels!

Thought I might talk about something I'd been curious about.

The union jack flag is every where, used on clothing and accessories, but why?

It started in the 1960s, as London was the global capital of youth culture, pop music, and style, with bands like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Who. Mini dresses were worn by style icons like Mary Quant and Twiggy, this style appealing to mod subculture.

Rock bands like the Who adorned themself in the colours of the union jack draping themselves in the flag in one photo.

The union jack was used used in punk environments in the 1970s, with safety pins and distressed looks creating a grunge, raw and edgy vibe. Designers like Vivienne Westwood used these in their works, using this as more of a rebellion than as a symbol of national unity.

Music groups like the spice girls and oasis caused the Union jack to have another revival in the 1990s, as well as the rise of the era of Cool Britannica, which celebrated British music, art and pop.

Now you can incorporate this iconic flag into your modern outfits to add flair and swag to any outfits, as you can relate this back to 3 different eras with their own unique media and fashion icons.

xoxo
